The European Research Council’s (ERC) mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, based on scientific excellence. During the first part of this session, Maria Gonzalez, the panel coordinator of the Mathematics panel, will give an overview of the different funding schemes available, as well as of the evaluation process, which understanding is key when applying for a grant.

This will be complemented with the testimonies of grantees and former panel members.

The theme of sustainability of research life is growing in importance in the academic debate. Sustainability can be intended in different ways: in terms of mental health of researchers or, for example, focusing on the environmental point of view. This session is intended as an occasion to discuss in small groups about such themes, sharing our own experiences and ideas on how it is like to live and work in academia and what kind of actions can be taken to mitigate climate change.
