Open Call for 9ECM Satellite Conference Proposals
The 9th European Congress of Mathematics will be held in Sevilla, Spain, from 15 to 19 July 2024. The call for proposals for satellite conferences is now open and you can find further details below. The purpose of a satellite is to encourage simultaneous participation of mathematicians, both at the satellite and 9ECM.
Requirements of satellite conferences
Location
Satellite conferences should take place anywhere in Spain, or somewhere which can be reached in a reasonable time from Sevilla (an estimate of four hours is given but is not strict).
Dates
Dates for satellite conferences must be reasonably close to those of the dates of 9ECM, preferably taking place between May and September 2024, but must not overlap with the dates of 9ECM. Satellite conferences which take place before 9ECM should finish on Saturday July 13th, 2024, at the latest; satellite conferences which take place after 9ECM should start on Sunday July 21st, 2024, at the earliest.
Commitments
Satellite conferences should offer at least a 20% discount in their registration fee to their participants which are also registered to participate in 9ECM. Satellite conferences must also give publicity to 9ECM through their website and other appropriate channels, including the 9ECM logo, the EMS logo, and links to the 9ECM website.
The 9ECM Organizing Committee would like to encourage organizers of satellite conferences to apply for 9ECM minisymposia as well, and to send information to their participants on the possibility to do so.
All satellite conferences will be advertised on the 9ECM website, including title, abstract, dates, venue and information about its organizers.
Submission of proposals
Proposals for satellites are accepted until the end of July 2023, in order to allow enough time for proper publicity of the satellite conference to be made via the 9ECM website and related channels, and the registration of participants to both events. The Organizing Committee of 9ECM will consider applications and decide on their approval within 30 working days from their reception.
In the submission process the applicants must provide the following information:
- Title and subject of the satellite.
- Personal data of the satellite organiser and co-organizers, including a publications database ID (ORCID, zbMATH, Scopus, or similar).
- Up to 3 MSC2010 codes best describing the proposed satellite subject.
- Abstract of the proposed satellite in no more than 6000 characters, including spaces. In case the proposal is approved, this text will be published in the 9ECM webpage to present the satellite.
- Approximate dates of the satellite.
- Venue of the satellite conference.
- Tentative number of participants.
- Website (if available).
- List of invited speakers, with their publications database ID (ORCID, zbMATH, Scopus, or similar).
Approval of proposals
Satellite conferences will be approved based on scientific merit and suitability of the conference in terms of closeness in date and place to 9ECM.
Approval of proposals is decided by the 9ECM Local Scientific Committee. After approval by the 9ECM Scientific Committee, organizers of the satellite conference will be asked to sign an agreement with the 9ECM Organizing Committee. This signed agreement gives the final approval of the proposed satellite. If you require any further information, please contact by email at
